With Mediation Centre
Established by: TAMILNADU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY
Administered by: TAMILNADU CHAMBER FOUNDATION
Origin of ChaAT - Inaugurated on 24-11-2007 by the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
Hon’ble Justice Dr.AR.Lakshmanan the then Judge of the Supreme court was the chief guest on 15-08-2004 to inaugurate TN Chamber’s flag ship forum, “ Young Entrepreneur School–YES”, a brain child of the President of TN Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr.S.Rethinavelu. During his inaugural address, Dr.AR.Lakshmanan to the surprise of the entire audience packed with Chamber members, advocates and judges, said that “the traders and industrialists need not approach the regular courts for settlement of their commercial disputes, instead the Chamber could establish an Arbitration Tribunal under Arbitration and Conciliation Act,1996, wherein the commercial disputes could be resolved by arbitrators, like your President, and this would be convienient for the Trade and Industry”.
This message was the spark to Mr.S.Rethinavelu, who was a practising lawyer earlier, to get into action immediately. He was ably assisted by the Treasurer of the Chamber Mr.N.Jegatheesan, who was also a practising lawyer earlier, and aptly guided by Mr.V.Inbavijayan, Advocate and International Arbitrator,Chennai in establishing ChaAT.
